A Journal For Jordan’s Dana Canedy on A New Family Heirloom and Intersecting Paths with Denzel Washington and Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams

A Journal For Jordan is a love story that we need to experience right now. For me it was a jolt to my heart, it moved me to feel and to cry. It seems as if we only reference love in romance and flowers and kisses. Love and romance also emcompasses fear, pain and sometimes even loss. I walked the path of love and loss when I was 19 years old. I was madly in love and my then boyfriend was succumbed to gun violence.

You never forget the pain that comes with that kind of loss. So I could relate to Dana Canedy’s love and pain and the complexity of how they can coexist simultaneously. Nothing makes sense at the time. The road seems endless but at the end of it all, there is light. The light that the fallen one left behind in your heart, forever and no amount of grief and tears can ever remove that.

In A Journal For Jordan, based on a true story and the novel A Journal For Jordan by Canedy, Dana follows her instincts and buys her beloved Charles a journal before his deployment for the War in Iraq. She was then pregnant and wanted him to write to their newborn son while they were apart. He did and the fruits of his penned labor has continue to sprout since landing in Jordan’s hands.

Dana Canedy, Charles King’s wife and Jordan’s mother, journalist and a Simon & Schuster Executive, spoke with me about the journal being a new family heirloom and how the paths intersecting for her, Denzel Washington, Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams. Take a listen below. Theaters December 25, 2021.

Starring Michael B. Jordan, A JOURNAL FOR JORDAN is based on the true story of Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Jordan), a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son. Back at home, senior New York Times editor Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams) revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King and his enduring devotion to her and their child. A sweeping account of a once-in-a-lifetime love, the film is a powerful reminder of the importance of family.
