Ghostbusters is a title that we had to experience in theaters! And I’m so glad that we did! Seeing the cult classic on the big screen with my two teenage sons was an experience I didn’t know I needed. As of late Hollywood has really been producing a hefty dose of nostalgia. It’s been great to go back down memory lane and remember and be thankful for when days were a bit less complex. I was a teen when the first Ghostbusters was released and it was so much hype around the movie. The radio station had Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” theme song and Bobby Brown’s “On Our Own” on constant repeat! Those were the days when movie soundtracks were the backdrop to our lives.
This is a small confession, but I was looking for the details first. I had to make sure that the connection was there and well thought out. It had to trigger a feeling in me. That’s what movies are supposed to do, right? Ghostbusters: Afterlife is laid back, quirky, corny, funny, mysterious, uplifting and full of everything the new Ghostbusters needed, especially the warm welcome from the multigenerational audience. It left me wanting to see further down th e road, I want continue the adventure.

The writing moved along quickly keeping younger audiences interested and for the Gen X’s it was just long enough to revisit the 80s, but not stay for too long. Ghostbusters: Afterlife mixed a previously told story with current day teen life in a small town setting and perfectly opposite of NYC. The dialogue amongst teens is what you’d expect, sarcasm, first jobs, crushes and of course friendships. The story leads to a beautiful merge, sort of handing off the baton with grace. Ghostbusters: Afterlife, worthy of your holiday film list. It’s one, everyone can relate to, definitely gaining my approval!
From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters’ universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Gil Kenan & Jason Reitman.
